Canada-U.S. Relations Conference: Constructive Trade Dialogue

On January 13, Affilia participated in a conference hosted by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ) featuring the Honorable Pete Hoekstra, U.S. Ambassador to Canada. The event centered on a pivotal theme for North American economic relations: “A New Era for the Canada-U.S. Relationship.”

The discussion shed light on key bilateral trade challenges, including the upcoming review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA/USMCA). Against a backdrop of economic tensions and rapidly shifting global supply chains, these exchanges offer a vital forum for candidly addressing emerging hurdles and exploring practical collaboration opportunities for businesses on both sides of the border.

Ambassador Hoekstra underscored the need for sustained collaboration among trading partners to bolster regional competitiveness and North American economic resilience. While he highlighted stability and predictability as—in his view—core pillars of the Canada-U.S. economic relationship, the conversation also revealed points of divergence and pressing concerns for Canadian firms in today’s climate. For Affilia, the true value of such events lies in fostering open dialogue amid disagreements, enriching our nuanced strategic insights into the evolving Canada-U.S. partnership.

We extend our thanks to the FCCQ for orchestrating this timely forum, and to Ambassador Hoekstra for his engagement and openness with Quebec’s business community.
